There are wines that tell the story of a territory. And wines that, even before that, tell a story spanning centuries. It was in this spirit that Terre dei Cavalieri took part in Vini d’Abbazia, the event dedicated to wine born in the shadow of abbeys, monasteries and commanderies: a heritage that, since the Middle Ages, has preserved grape varieties and knowledge that would otherwise have been lost.
Vini d’Abbazia 2026, at the Abbey of Fossanova
The 2026 edition took place from 12 to 14 June at the extraordinary Abbey of Fossanova, in Priverno (LT): one of the most important examples of Cistercian architecture in Italy, consecrated in 1208. Between the Gothic naves, the cloister and the refectory, tasting stands, masterclasses and conversations on the ancient bond between spirituality, landscape and wine followed one another.
Castello di Magione, our Umbrian estate
Representing Terre dei Cavalieri was Castello di Magione, on the Colli del Trasimeno, in Umbria. The castle — whose origins date back to the 12th century — was built as a place to welcome and care for pilgrims and has been linked for centuries to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Within its walls, vines and olive trees have always accompanied the life of the community.
Its vineyards produce the Colli del Trasimeno DOC wines — above all Grechetto and Sangiovese — the expression of a land where caring for the soil is, before anything else, an act of dedication.
A shared heritage
Bringing the wines of Castello di Magione to Vini d’Abbazia meant rediscovering the common roots of many places that, like ours, hold a history made of religious and chivalric orders, landscapes shaped by human hands, and bottles that are, above all, memory.
Every glass shared over these three days was a story: that of a wine crossing the centuries and still speaking to the present.
